A lovely “Breda” lounge chair, designed by French designer Pierre Guariche and produced by Meurop in Belgium during the 1960s. The design looks simple at first but it’s defenately a beatiful example of “less is more”. It has no unnecessary details whatsoever, just a few well-considered lines with the right proportions. It gives the chair a lovely lightness which makes this item easy to blend in I think. On top of that it has, because of the slightly reclined back, a very relaxed and inviting appearance. After creating important furniture for high-end French manufacturers such as Steiner and Airborne, Guariche began working with Meurop in 1957 and went on to become the company’s creative director, bringing his modern French design approach to Belgium. And this “Breda” chair is a very nice example of Guariche’s post-war design. A good design, kept simple without losing its character. Only produced in Belgium this time.
