19th century Belgian mirror black

A Belgian mirror from the mid-19th century, set in a wooden frame with a later high-gloss black finish. The rectangular frame has a simply moulded inner edge and subtle vertical grooves along the bottom. The mirror retains its original mercury glass, which, due to ageing, has developed a distinctly weathered surface with dark discolouration, stains and areas where the mirror silver has partially worn away. The back features a traditional wooden construction to which the old mirror glass is secured.
