Double-sided post office bureau Gillows 1794 George III

We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptionally rare desk from 1794, in the George III style, made by Gillows of Lancaster, double-sided with double legs for postmen, in mahogany panel. It features a unique arrangement of drawers and cupboards, with two full-height cupboard doors at the front with functional locks and a central drawer. Inside the front cupboards, there are four perfectly fitted drawers. At the back, there are three hidden cupboards with original locks and keys. The left and right cupboards contain postal boxes covering the entire alphabet, and the central cupboard has a unique drawer and vertical dividers for files. The leather top is original with very elaborate embossed decoration. Made of gilded mahogany with a beautiful patina. Each side is fitted with bronze lion heads holding rings. The condition is good with normal wear due to age, the finish has been cleaned, waxed, and polished, and the majority of the original keys are present, except for the central drawer.
