Restored antique Russian hardwood partner desk and leather armchair.

We are delighted to offer this magnificent Russian partner desk made of solid mahogany and gold metal, fully restored, along with a throne chair upholstered in hand-dyed whisky-coloured leather, dating from around 1860-1880. This set is monumental in every way. The scale is enormous; everything is large, ornate, and beautifully crafted with the finest and most expensive materials, making it a pair of imperial quality. The desk is very large and exceptionally heavy, featuring functional keys for the doors that open to reveal oversized drawers running the entire length of the desk's body. The desk has two sliding extensions on each side, allowing it to accommodate four people simultaneously. It is decorated and finished with various pieces in gold metal. The chair is similar in stature; it is a huge full-size throne chair, with very fine leather upholstery, adorned with gold leaf details and gold metal throughout. The pair has been fully restored by a French cabinetmaker with conservation work (shellac polishing), preserving the original patina accumulated over the years. The leather top of the desk and the chair upholstery have been completely re-dyed by hand. These pieces are very fine and would have cost a small fortune to order new. Knee space: Height: 57 cm, Width: 80 cm. All measurements are taken at the widest points. This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Pulborough. Condition: refurbished with wear consistent with age and use, slight discolouration. Vintage leather items show natural patina in the form of creases and wear; annual polishing is recommended to preserve moisture. Hand-dyed leather should not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods to avoid drying and discolouration.
