Gio Ponti (1891-1979) Pair of headboards for the Royal Continental Hotel. Matching headboards made of maple wood with a double shelf, magazine rack, button panel, night light, and reading lamp in brushed brass, 80x160x42 cm (dimensions of each element). Produced in 1954. Provenance: Royal Hotel, Naples. Bibliography: F. Mautone, Gio Ponti and the Fernandes Commission, Electa Mondadori, Naples 2009. We have decided to keep the pieces in their original condition to prove authenticity, without any restoration; for this reason, there are discolourations and scratches on the veneer, which will be easily restored. There is a horizontal frieze at the top of one of the headboards, which the other does not have.
