Mother Terracotta Centerpiece - Sophie Parachey

Mother is the first form of this series of centerpieces. Its curves are generous and enveloping, soothing. Hand-shaped Guatemalan land taken by hand, the terracotta is left raw as a salute to the ground of this region. This piece can be coupled with the centerpiece lali terracotta, and thus forms the duo mother and son (cf. Third photo). Only one room is available in this land. Nourished by various stays in Central America, Sophie Parachey's work questions the change of scenery, the antagonism of the ancestral and the modern, and the relationship to the living. His pieces are modeled in sandstone or collected earth, which are expressed according to their curves, textures and resonances. Rough or smoothed, they tell together a paradoxical universe. Primary and raw volumes, barely hatched from magma, rub shoulders with softer, more subtle forms. From this astonishing cohabitation seems to be reborn a new balance.
