Old framed pastel painting signed – S. Beaujeu Dufour – Bouquet

This large original vintage pastel depicts a generous, almost overflowing bouquet—white, pink, coral, and red flowers mixed with dark green foliage, arranged in a simple stoneware jug. The artist captures the flowers with a free and energetic touch, and it is precisely this that gives the pastel its strength: the vibrancy of the colour, the spontaneity of the gesture, the light that makes each petal vibrate. The grey-blue background, treated in broad, vapour-like washes, brilliantly highlights the floral explosion in the foreground. The signature of the painter Suzanne Beaujeu-Dufour is placed in the bottom left. Born in Bièvres in 1906 and died in Créteil in 1974, this artist exhibited with the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors from 1929 to 1934.
