Very elegant oil on canvas from the late 19th / early 20th century depicting an opulent bouquet of old roses arranged in a blue and white porcelain vase. The work is signed in the bottom right by the famous Ukrainian painter Nicolaï Alexandrovitch Okolowicz (1867-1928), associated with the Russian School. A renowned traveller and academic painter, Okolowicz excels in the art of capturing the delicate texture of flowers and the play of light, as evidenced here by the draping of the petals fallen on the entablature and the brilliance of the earthenware vase. The painting is enhanced by its original ornate frame, combining a dark wood mount and a double gilded wood moulding, which adds a theatrical depth to the composition. Technical characteristics: • Artist: Nicolaï Alexandrovitch Okolowicz (1867-1928) • Technique: Original oil on canvas on its stretcher. • Canvas dimensions: 55 X 46 cm (Standard format 10F) • Total dimensions with frame: approximately 70 X 60 cm. • Signature: Signed "A. Okolowicz" in the bottom right. Condition: Very good overall condition for a work of this period. The canvas is sound, the paint layer is stable, and the colours have retained their original contrasts. Slight wear on the gilding of the frame, which gives it a superb patina of authenticity. A refined and timeless masterwork, perfect for enriching a collection or adding character to a warm interior.
