Superb set of 6 teak and black skai dining chairs. They were designed by Aksel Bender Madsen for the Dutch manufacturer Bovenkamp in the 1960s. Madsen is renowned for his exquisite craftsmanship with organic wood forms. The organically shaped backrest resembles a wave. These chairs have a timeless design with a clear influence from mid-century modern Scandinavian design. Very firm seat, no tears on the skai, some signs of wear on the wooden legs (see photos). Aksel Bender Madsen is a talented Danish designer, born in 1916 in Denmark. After becoming a carpenter, he studied furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. During his studies, he met his friend and future partner, Ejner Larsen. Together, they presented numerous projects at several exhibitions of the Cabinetmakers Guild in Copenhagen. Madsen also collaborated with two talented Scandinavian designers: Kaare Klint and Arne Jacobsen. Bender Madsen left an indelible mark on the history of Scandinavian design. His style is representative of Scandinavian design: clear, understated, and timeless lines. The Dutch furniture company Bovenkamp operated in the 1950s and 1960s, based in Hilversum, Netherlands. Height: 77 cm. Depth: 48 cm. Width: 50 cm. Seat height: 44.5 cm.
