Two-seater bench "Djinn" by Olivier Mourgue for Airborne, 1965

French work, edition c.1970. H 67 X W 123 X D 70 cm. Tubular steel structure, foam and cotton velvet. Very good condition. The two-seater version: the seat is a single piece measuring 123 cm, the shield-shaped backrest remains detached, and nothing from the steel frame or the webbing protrudes under the foam. Olivier Mourgue designed the Djinn series in 1964-1965 for Airborne, seeking low, lightweight seats that could be moved with one hand. Stanley Kubrick furnished the orbital station in 2001: A Space Odyssey with them; the Djinn serve as the seats of the future. The armchair from the series has entered the collections of the Centre Pompidou. This piece has been completely reupholstered in Kvadrat cotton velvet.
