A beautiful pair of original Alky lounge chairs, designed by Giancarlo Piretti in 1969. Both chairs have been carefully restored and reupholstered in a high-quality, green mélange wool fabric by Maharam. Original vintage design by Giancarlo Piretti, dating from the late 1960s. Professionally restored and reupholstered in premium Maharam wool, with damaged sections of the original foam carefully replaced. Original metal construction and aluminium trim preserved, retaining the distinctive low, sculptural silhouette. About the Design. Designed in 1969 for Italian manufacturer Anonima Castelli, the Alky is a distinctive example of late-1960s Italian furniture design. The model was also produced by Artifort. Piretti created a remarkably fluid silhouette in which the seat, backrest and sides appear to form one continuous, upholstered shape. Its softly rounded contours contrast beautifully with the slim aluminium detailing along the base. The result is a compact yet generously comfortable lounge chair, combining innovative construction with an elegant, understated appearance. Restoration. These two original vintage examples have been carefully restored in my upholstery workshop. The original internal foam has been preserved wherever possible, while deteriorated sections have been selectively replaced to restore comfort and support without unnecessarily altering the original construction. Both chairs have been completely reupholstered in a beautiful green mélange wool by Maharam. The subtle texture and rich colour complement Piretti's sculptural design, giving these vintage pieces a fresh, contemporary character. The original aluminium trim has been retained. About Me. I restore and reinterpret distinctive vintage furniture, with particular attention to original construction, materials and craftsmanship. By combining traditional upholstery techniques with carefully selected contemporary materials, I aim to give existing furniture a meaningful second life.
