Vintage Johnson Brothers “Devon Sprays” Set

Charming antique English earthenware tea set, Devon Sprays design by Johnson Brothers, comprising: 8 matching cups, 5 saucers, 1 sugar bowl with handles and lid and the matching milk jug. Emblematic floral design: large pink roses, olive-brown foliage and touches of blue and a fluted shape typical of the Ironstone series. “Devon Sprays – Johnson Bros” stamp visible under each piece except the cups which have a “Made in England” intaglio marking with traces of green stamp (typical of Johnson Brothers productions): Johnson Brothers is an English manufacturer founded in 1883 in Staffordshire, famous for its solid earthenware called Ironstone, resistant and delicately decorated. The Devon Sprays pattern, produced in the 60s–70s, perfectly embodies the English cottage style sought after today. Very good vintage condition, no chips – gentle wear over time which adds to the charm and slight cracks on the bottom of three cups and the sugar bowl (see photos).
