Jo Hammerborg’s brilliant Medio pendant lamp, released by Fog & Mørup in 1966, is a space-age classic with its futuristic, geometric, spaceship-like shape and glossy finish. At the same time, it reminds us of Hammerborg’s experience as a goldsmith at the great Danish jeweller Georg Jensen. This particular lamp has been re-polished and its surface transformed from the original uniformly brushed aluminium to a more irregular surface. The result can be seen in the detailed photos. The complete electrical installation has been updated with a new E27 bulb socket and a 2-metre-long black fabric cable. Original Fog & Mørup label still intact. Johannes (Jo) Hammerborg grew up just outside Randers in an ordinary middle-class family. He trained as a goldsmith, participated in the Danish resistance and freedom struggle in 1940-45 as a saboteur, studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a goldsmith at Georg Jensen. In 1957 he was hired as chief designer at the lamp manufacturer Fog & Mørup, where he worked until 1980.
