Art Deco guéridon with double top, 1931

This superb pedestal or narrow high table with slender legs is characteristic of the Art Deco period, the artistic movement that succeeded Art Nouveau. After the exuberant shapes and decorations of flowers or insects, it gives way to geometric patterns and understated curves. The upper round top features an inlaid design of geometric shapes with a perspective effect. The intermediate stretcher, which reinforces the base, is concave in shape, accentuating the refined silhouette of the pedestal. Its patterns echo those of the upper top. The legs and the apron also display inclusions. The overall craftsmanship of the pieces is indicative of a beautifully made piece of furniture. This decorative piece, which can serve as a stand for a living room lamp, a green plant, or a decorative object, will work wonders in an entrance hall, living room, or bedroom.
