Louis XV style handkerchief game table with marquetry chess.

Game table known as "mouchoir", in Louis XV style, made of precious wood marquetry. When closed, it displays four triangular floral marquetry designs, featuring scrolls and flowers. When opened, it transforms in two movements. First, the top is rotated a quarter turn, then its four triangles are unfolded. It then becomes a game table. At the centre is a marquetry chessboard. In the four corners, playing cards, tokens, dice, and chess pieces are represented in trompe-l'œil. Its highlights: • The "mouchoir" mechanism, rarer and more sought after than that of classic game tables. • A double marquetry: floral on the outside, trompe-l'œil on the inside. • The integrated marquetry chessboard in the top. • A curved and marquetry belt, with a drawer. • Cabriole legs, with patinated metal fittings on the falls and feet. • Very good overall condition and a perfectly functional mechanism. Sold with its complete brass chess set (32 pieces), featuring stylised pieces: bulls and figures with raised arms. The white pieces are in gilded brass, the black ones in dark patinated brass. Work from the second half of the 20th century. Condition: slight signs of use on the edges and a small scratch on one of the triangles (see photos).
