Overview. Early Biedermeier display cabinet, southern Germany/Austria region, circa 1820s. Clean, geometric silhouette typical of Biedermeier, designed to showcase veneer figure rather than applied ornament. Materials. Main surfaces veneered in light cherry wood with contrasting ash-burl panels on the side pilaster strips. Plum wood band inlay framing the ash-burl details; single large glazed door with narrow wooden frame. Interior. Fitted with four shelves; interior surfaces covered in black fabric for an elegant backdrop to displayed objects. Original lock equipped and supplied with a brass key. Construction & Features. Three glazed panes divided by horizontal, cherry-veneered intermediate struts across the front.
