Iron Earth, which appeared in France around 1840, is a denser and more resistant earthenware than traditional earthenware. Very popular in bourgeois homes and hotels at the turn of the century, it combined fine decoration with everyday robustness. The Phénix Déposé brand guaranteed quality and export; these pieces adorned family tables as well as inn sideboards. This model has a lively and timeless decoration, ideal for serving milk, water or for diverting into a country vase.
