Henriot Quimper teapot – floral relief decoration

Earthenware teapot signed Henriot Quimper, marked 74 under the base. Its hand-painted floral decoration, slightly in relief, and its matte glaze bear witness to the workshop's experiments in the 1970s, a transition period after the HB-Henriot merger. The colors are rarer than the usual pieces from this famous manufacturer, the decoration is somewhat similar to the royal floral decoration, and the shape of the teapot is quite classic for Henriot. This decoration, not listed in the catalogs of the time, seems to be a workshop motif or a special trial, which makes it a unique and rare piece. In the 1970s, Henriot experimented with several things: thicker engobes and underlined paints that give this slightly raised effect, a thinner and less shiny glaze, which makes the pieces more matte and sometimes more susceptible to wear, and revisited decorations with slightly bolder colors, in line with the trends of the time. This is a transitional production before the more “modern” standards of the 80s–90s. Stamped Henriot Quimper 74.
