Glazed yellow terracotta cradle – South-West of France – 19th century

Authentic old confit pot in glazed yellow terracotta, probably from the South-West of France and dating from the 19th century (circa 1850-1900). These pots were traditionally used for preserving meats (duck, goose, pork...) in their fat. The lower part, left unglazed, allowed them to be partially buried to keep their contents cool. This beautiful handcrafted pottery is coated with a shiny honey-yellow glaze with lovely natural drips. It has two handles and shows a magnificent original patina, a testament to its authenticity. With a height of approximately 32.3 cm, this large model is particularly decorative. It will easily find its place in a country kitchen, a characterful interior, or as a planter for a large plant. Condition: good overall condition considering its age. Some chips in the glaze on the rim and normal signs of use. No visible cracks or repairs.
