Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug (1879), floral decoration by Henry Winstanley.

Superb small Victorian English jug by Doulton Lambeth, with an extremely intricate design: turned stoneware, incised and relief decoration, small applied white slip beads, stylised foliage, large radiant flowers, cobalt blue/grey blue/cream palette on a manganese brown background. The handle itself is also decorated, which is a bonus. And above all, the whole piece possesses that very characteristic neo-Gothic/Aesthetic Movement blend of the best productions from the late 1870s. The number of marks under the base is also notable. It is in usable condition, with hairline cracks and small chips (see photos), but remains an exceptional piece and a beautiful testament to the past.
