Ceramic vase by Louis Waem (1921-?), mid-20th century. The Nimy Masterclass (1943-1950) was a movement composed of eight artists, including Georges Destrebecq, Fernande Massart, Louis Waem, René Lemaigre, Pierre Valuta, André Hupet, Irène Zacq, and Geneviève Noe. They were pioneers in elevating ceramics to the status of art and in promoting the creation of unique pieces, in response to industrialization. This vase is decorated with unique motifs based on variations of a single theme in terms of technique and background form. It offers an exploration of the material, form, and decoration characteristic of the pioneering style of the 1950s. Height of the vase: 33 cm. The decoration is achieved sometimes through a composition of different sgraffito friezes (recessed into the clay), and sometimes through glazes applied with a brush. Enamel in earth tones, reds, and touches of gold. Red clay ceramic. Good overall condition, see photos. Very few chips; one of the two commas on the white background has been repaired. Signed on the base. Diameter 15 cm and height 33 cm.
