Alfar TITO (Juan Martínez Villacañas) - UBEDA - Grand Jug / Glazed Earthenware Pitcher - Spanish Folk Art - Signed. DESCRIPTION: Magnificent and authentic folk art pitcher (or jug), a piece of great character signed by one of the most renowned pottery workshops in Andalusia: Alfar Tito, by artisan Juan Martínez Villacañas (known as "Tito") in Ubeda, Spain. This piece is a superb example of traditional Andalusian pottery, revitalised by a master craftsman. It is made of earthenware, covered with a beautiful deep green glaze (based on copper oxide) and enhanced with ochre and manganese (black/brown) patterns. The rich and complex decoration is typical of the workshop: it is created through incisions (sgraffito) in spiral shapes, and by stamped motifs (flowers, friezes). There are stunning iridescent/lustrous reflections on the shoulder, a sign of great mastery in firing. The piece is clearly stamped "TITO" and "UBEDA" near the base. It is a high-quality handcrafted object, heavy, sculptural, and a magnificent example of the best of Spanish artisanal art. Condition: Excellent condition. Impeccable. No chips, cracks, or visible restorations. The glaze is superb and the iridescent reflections are prominent.
