This Mid-Century Modern terracotta pitcher was crafted by AKRU Ceramics and designed by Alfred J. Krupp in West Germany during the 1950s–1960s. The design draws inspiration from African tribal pottery, reinterpreted into a modernist aesthetic typical of postwar German ceramics. The pitcher features a sculptural form with a cauldron and black glaze, highlighted by raised white glazed lines that add a graphic contrast. It is marked with 'Handarbeit' and model number 111/25 on the base. Dimensions: Height 25 cm (9.84 in), Diameter 26 cm (10.24 in). In very good vintage condition, this piece exemplifies AKRU's refined craftsmanship, known for their use of locally sourced red clay and sgraffito decoration. AKRU Ceramics, founded in 1948 in Hillscheid, Rhineland, specialized in durable klinker ceramics with earthy tones, balancing functional craftsmanship with expressive forms. Collectible and admired for its material honesty and tactile surfaces, this pitcher is a fine example of Mid-Century Modern design.
