A striking Mid-Century Modern terracotta pitcher by AKRU Ceramics, designed by Alfred J. Krupp in West Germany during the 1950s–1960s. Inspired by African tribal pottery, the piece is reinterpreted through a modernist lens. It features a deeply carved low-relief striped decoration in a soft cream tone against a matte chocolate-brown glaze, creating a bold visual contrast. The pitcher is substantial in weight and scale, with a strong sculptural presence, making it suitable as both a decorative object and a collectible example of West German studio pottery. Marked 'Handarbeit' and model code 299/30 on the base. Dimensions: Height 30 cm (11.8 in), Diameter 20 cm (7.9 in). Weight: Approx. 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs). In mint condition. AKRU Ceramics, founded in 1948 in Hillscheid, Rhineland, specialized in klinker ceramics using locally sourced red clay. Their pieces are known for their handcrafted quality, mid-century forms, and sgraffito decoration, reflecting post-war modernist ideals.
