Blackened wood work table, Napoléon III period – 2nd half of the 19th century

This Napoleon III period work table, made of blackened wood, is distinguished by delicate marquetry of brass fillets forming refined frames and graceful garlands surrounding a flower vase on the top. Its drop leaf, fitted with a mirror on the inner part, opens to reveal a compartmentalised interior designed to carefully organise small objects. A belt drawer is adorned with a chiselled key. The whole rests on four tapered and fluted legs decorated with fine asparagus. These are elegantly connected by a stretcher, giving the piece a harmonious silhouette and a charm typically associated with the Second Empire, where the finesse of the cabinetmaking combines with the preciousness of the brass ornaments.
