Overview. Restored Biedermeier jewellery box from Southern Germany, circa 1820. Low-profile, rectangular form with restrained, geometric decoration typical of the period. Materials. Cherry veneer on a softwood carcass with pale ash veneer inlay forming a centred medallion and peripheral stringing. Functional brass fittings including hinges and a working lock/escutcheon. Finish & Restoration. Hand-polished with shellac; surface has been refreshed and partially restored while retaining period patina. Light wear consistent with age and use; refinished and polished as described by the seller. Dimensions & Use. External dimensions: W 30 cm × D 24 cm × H 10 cm — compact and ideal for tabletop or dressing-table display. Suitable for storing jewellery, small keepsakes or for use as an elegant decorative object. Provenance. Southern Germany, early 19th century (Biedermeier period).
