Poetic evocation guaranteed. Louis Auguste Moreau belongs to the Moreau family, a dynasty of renowned sculptors from Dijon[1] and settled in Paris. He is the son of Auguste Moreau (1834-1917)[2]. The subjects of his sculptures are allegorical and classical groups as well as famous characters[3]. He also produces sculptures in the Art Nouveau style[5] mainly representing young women or young children, fictional heroines (Salammbô, bronze) or historical, decorated with floral motifs and ornaments[6]. He will influence other sculptors of the Belle Époque[6] like Lucien Alliot (1877-1967), who was his student[7]. He regularly exhibited his sculptures at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1875 and became, in 1878, a member of the Société des Artistes Français[4]. His works regularly won awards and he became a member of the Salon jury in 1888[8]. He received a 3rd class medal of honor in 1880[9], a bronze medal at the Paris World's Fair of 1889[10] and another bronze medal at the 1900 World's Fair[4]. Louis Auguste Moreau's studio was located on Rue Pelleport in Paris, a city that became, at the end of the 19th century, the capital of Art Nouveau sculpture. A renowned sculptor and shrewd merchant, like other members of the Moreau family, his many creations exhibited at the Salons were taken up and produced in marble and bronze intended for the bourgeoisie, in more accessible spelter[ or other materials (tin, biscuit). The works are signed "Louis Moreau" in cursive writing." - source Wikipedia.
