Carved wooden monoxyl tribal statue, Central Africa, 87 cm

Antique tribal sculpture depicting an anthropomorphic figure, carved from a single block of wood (monoxyl), measuring approximately 87 cm high (excluding the base). This raw and expressive work is part of the sculptural traditions of central africa, particularly those of the mbole or lega peoples of the congo basin. The schematic face, plated arms, and slender proportions give the piece great plastic strength. The dry, untreated wood has a marked natural patina and several old cracks, mainly visible on the face and torso, due to the organic aging of the material. The statue rests on a turned wooden base, added to ensure its stability and facilitate its presentation. This base is not original but highlights the verticality of the piece without altering its authenticity.
