An exceptional pair of vintage Italian wingback armchairs from the 1950s, featuring beautifully sculptural silhouettes and their charming original floral upholstery. These elegant lounge chairs are characterised by their tall, gently reclining backrests, distinctive winged sides, generously proportioned armrests and tapered wooden legs. The beautifully balanced proportions and refined architectural lines are reminiscent of Italian mid-century furniture design, particularly the work of Gio Ponti, to whom the pair is stylistically attributed. Both armchairs retain their original floral woven upholstery, featuring an intricate tapestry-like pattern of flowers and foliage in warm shades of dusty pink, terracotta, cream, ochre and muted blue against a dark background. The original fabric gives these chairs a wonderfully authentic vintage character and makes them particularly attractive as a matching pair. Their generous proportions and distinctive silhouettes make them ideal statement pieces for a sophisticated living room, boutique hotel, library or eclectic interior. Good vintage condition, retaining the original upholstery. The floral fabric shows some age-related wear, consistent with its age and previous use. The wooden legs also display a natural vintage patina. The rear panels are finished in plain fabric rather than the decorative floral upholstery.
