Duo of Gien plates, Groseilles model

Rare and absolutely superb: this duo of antique flat plates in fine gien earthenware, groseille decoration in an intense navy blue, almost inky shade. A much less common model than the classic florals, here in a version that is both graphic and elegant, between old charm and modernity. The motif, all in finesse, mixes branches of gooseberries and stylized foliage in an almost japanese style. This deep blue, rare for gien, captures the light magnificently and gives relief to the piece. We love: the groseille motif, much more difficult to find, this unusual navy color, both sober and powerful, the quality of manufacture of the gien earthenware and the detail of the insect present on the edge of the plate with an almost poetic movement. Stamped “porcelaine opaque de gien – groseille”, production estimated late 19th early 20th. Each plate tells a story: that of a know-how born in the heart of the loire, in the gien workshops, founded in 1821 and renowned for their high-quality opaque porcelain. The old, slightly cracked glaze adds an authentic patina to their period charm, a testament to the tables of yesteryear. Very good vintage condition: age-related cracks, patina of time which gives touches of beige color, one of the two plates has two chips that are barely visible when the plate is placed.
