French school. Head of a woman. Circa 1920. Patinated terracotta. H. 40 cm. Unsigned. Wear to the patina. Head of a woman dating from the 1920s with a very distinctive hairstyle, curled at the sides and back. It is a beautiful encounter between Art Deco and the Renaissance. The effect of sfumato is not easy to achieve in sculpture with as much success as here, and the air of mystery surrounding this woman, along with the play of shadow and light, is very well done.
