PRYAS (Bordeaux 1891 - Paris 1985) Bust of a woman. Circa 1935. Terracotta. Bust 30 cm - walnut base 12 cm - total 42 cm. Signed: PRYAS PRYAS is the artist name of Jean Paris, a sculptor born in Bordeaux. He was part of the leading group of French sculptors who contributed the gilded nudes for the forecourt of the Trocadéro, commissioned in 1937 for the World Expo. After the Second World War, PRYAS remained active with numerous exhibitions in galleries on the Left Bank, using a style more abstract than previously.
