The roundness of this generous fruit, a decorative element frequently found in Mediterranean countries and the Middle East, has inspired Studio Mikael Paris. And as an added bonus, the pomegranate is a symbol of good luck, here transformed into a charming glazed terracotta object, entirely handmade and hand-painted. Offered in two sizes, it can serve as a candle holder or be placed as a colourful note alongside the plates. In a few words about Iznik ceramics... Iznik ceramics emerged during the Ottoman Empire at the end of the 15th century in the eponymous city in Turkey. Today, these objects hold significant value in the art market. The decorative ceramics appeared in the 16th century under the influence of the sultans of the empire. Artisans then produced tiles to adorn monuments, and this ceramics became a symbol of luxury and prestige in European courts. It is very popular among art lovers and can reach a high value at auction. The manufacturing techniques; Iznik ceramics are made from a siliceous paste that is not very malleable, making it difficult to work with. A siliceous slip envelops the ceramics to give it the appearance of perfectly white porcelain, and the decorations are applied under a clear, glossy glaze. It requires 20 hours of firing at 900 °C and 7 days of cooling to avoid cracking.
