Robert Picault (1919-2000) Personal pieces are signed "Picault" in full until 1962. The signature on industrial pieces is "RP" in very dark green and "RP" in pale green after the ceramist's departure. French ceramist in Vallauris. Robert Picault contributed to the revival of culinary ceramics by updating traditional local forms decorated with geometric lines and designs. His slogan: "From the kitchen to the table." His distinctive style was a great success and continues to grace tables today. His personal pieces are sought after by art collectors. A former student of the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, Robert Picault arrived in Vallauris in 1946. He and his school friend Roger Capron (1922-2006) founded the Atelier Callis, which was later joined by Jean Derval (1925-2010). In this village of a hundred potters, they worked alongside neighboring ceramicists André Baud, Les 4 Potiers, and, among others, the Atelier Madoura, where he spent time with the renowned painter Picasso from 1949 to 1955. He also formed friendships with Jean Cocteau, Fernand Léger, Louis Aragon, and Elsa Triolet.
