This antique Japanese console is a wooden writing table with two drawers. It originates from Japan, from the Showa era, when Japanese furniture adopted forms influenced by the West. These standard-height tables catered to the new lifestyle of sitting on chairs, in contrast to traditional furniture that was level with the tatami. They served as desks or consoles at home or in the office. The body is made of wood, probably zelkova (keyaki), with two belt drawers and straight legs connected by side stretchers. The iron handles are recessed. The wood retains a warm patina and its visible grain, with soft signs of use. The surface appears authentic, without any restoration that obscures it. Today, it is used as a desk, entrance console, or side table. It fits into wabi-sabi, japandi, and minimalist interiors, where it adds warmth and texture.
