We are delighted to offer for sale this rare George III library secretary dating from around 1790 by Gillows of Lancaster and London. A rare find, the drawer bottoms and dovetail joints are correct, the lock is authentic, stamped I BRAMAH PATENT under the crown for King George III, used by Gillows between 1784-97. The small white handles of the internal drawers are also original. Two similar examples are documented. The wood is Cuban mahogany or Havana, appropriate for the period. The desk has been restored with a light French polish, with repairs to cracks on the top, the left handle slightly loose, and a new leather insert replacing the original deteriorated one. In very good condition for a desk over 220 years old. Dimensions: height 76 cm, width 91 cm, depth 48 cm.
