Glazed stoneware soup tureen with lid and plate – French workshop – 20th century

Beautiful glazed stoneware soup tureen, made using a traditional artisanal technique, likely from a French workshop active in the mid-20th century. The piece is distinguished by its stylised floral decoration, applied under a glaze with natural shades of beige, grey, and blue, typical of utilitarian and decorative stoneware from this period. The soup tureen features a lovely thickness of material, visible turning on the inside, and two side handles integrated into the shape. The well-fitted lid echoes the same tones and finishes, with a simple and functional central knob. The matching plate allows for both practical use and an elegant presentation on the table. The triangular mark on the underside indicates a workshop production, possibly regional (Puisaye, Burgundy, or central France), with no formal attribution at this stage, but characteristic of post-war French stoneware, straddling the line between utilitarian object and decorative piece. This soup tureen was intended for both everyday use and large family gatherings, and it now fits perfectly into a rustic, wabi-sabi, chic country, or contemporary interior.
