Wooden carved statue representing Saint Dominic de Guzman, dressed in a habit with the Cross of the Templars. 19th century. Dominic Núñez de Guzmán is often depicted holding a cross, a book, and a globe. He was born around 1170 in Caleruega, in the present-day province of Burgos, and died on 6 August 1221 in Bologna. He is a Catholic religious figure, a priest and founder of the order of preaching brothers commonly known as "Dominicans.".
