Ancient statue of the Virgin and Child in polychrome and gilded carved wood.

Superb ancient statue representing the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus, carved in wood, polychromed and gilded with gold leaf. The Virgin is depicted standing, dressed in a long cloak with elegantly worked folds, holding the Child in her left arm. The faces still show beautiful traces of original polychromy, particularly in the skin tones and rosy cheeks. The whole rests on an original moulded base. Generally in good condition considering its age. There are signs of wear, losses, and flaking of polychromy and gilding (visible in the photos), particularly on the cloak and the base. Signs of age consistent with its time. No visible structural restoration. Beautiful old patina. A decorative and devotional object, ideal for collectors of religious art, enthusiasts of antique objects, or characterful interior decoration.
