Ancient Japanese tansu with three drawers made of dark-toned wood. It comes from Japan, from the Taishō period, around 1920. A compact body with straight lines and a smooth facade. The tansu is the Japanese chest of drawers used for domestic purposes, and the three-drawer models, which are lower, were placed against the wall of the living room or bedroom to store clothes and everyday items. The three drawers have oval metal handles set into small recesses in the wood. The last drawer, unlike the other two, contains an interior divider. The dark surface shows the wood grain and signs of wear across the entire facade. It functions as a chest of drawers in a bedroom or as a low sideboard. Its dark surface contrasts with light walls and pairs well with furniture featuring simple lines. Details. Dimensions: Length 85 cm – Depth 42 cm – Height 75 cm. Style: Taishō period. Materials and techniques: Wood; oval metal handles. Place of origin: Japan. Period: Taishō period (1912-1926) Date of manufacture: Around 1920. Condition / Observations: Retains its three drawers and handles. Wear consistent with age and use. This piece is part of the Amaru Antiques collection, Barcelona.
