Superb large vintage handmade vase, model "Mexico", created by the talented artist Mari Simmulson for Upsala Ekeby in the 1960s/70s. It features a dark brown base with beautiful graphic details and is a remarkable centrepiece. Signed and in very good condition, with some signs of use inside, otherwise in excellent condition. Height: 23.5 cm, diameter: approximately 11 cm. Mari Simmulson (1911-2000) was an Estonian-Swedish ceramist, painter, and textile artist. After studying in Tallinn and Helsinki, she worked for Arabia, Gustavsbergs, and then Uppsala-Ekeby from 1949 to 1972. Her bold and contemporary style is highly sought after today. Upsala-Ekeby is one of the most renowned Swedish brands for mid-century art ceramics, having collaborated with great Scandinavian designers.
