West German ceramic vase with geometric pattern, glazed pottery from the 1970s

A ceramic vase from West German production, made during the 1970s. The slender cylindrical form features geometric decoration in shades of beige and brown, typical of the era's aesthetic sensibility. The glazed surface combines matte and subtly lustrous areas, creating a textural interplay characteristic of West German decorative ceramics. The design relies on a simple, elongated body with a clearly defined rim. Geometric ornamentation wraps around the entire vessel, establishing a rhythmic pattern of repeating motifs. The proportions — nearly forty centimeters in height with a diameter of nineteen — give the vase an elegant silhouette suited for displaying tall branches or dried arrangements. The glaze application emphasizes the relief quality of the decoration. West German ceramics of the 1960s and 1970s represent a distinctive chapter in European decorative arts. Dozens of manufacturers concentrated in the Rhineland region produced thousands of vase designs during this period, experimenting freely with form, color, and glaze texture. This prolific yet varied output addressed postwar demand for affordable everyday objects that could still offer visual distinction. Geometric patterns reflected contemporary interior trends favoring warm earth tones and repetitive graphic elements, making these pieces both accessible and stylistically current. The height of this vase makes it particularly suitable for tall grasses, branches, or dried floral compositions. It works effectively as a standalone decorative accent on a sideboard, console table, or floor placement against a low wall. Condition is good with no significant flaws. The vase retains full structural integrity and its original glaze character.
