This small antique piece painted in pine wood is a rustic furniture item from Central Europe with one door and cracked grey paint on a red background. It originates from Central Europe, from the early 20th century, when oil paint replaced distemper in domestic furniture. Cupboards of this size stored the household's dry provisions and were placed in the kitchen or hallway. The small rectangular opening at the bottom of the door serves this purpose: it allowed air to circulate and prevented moisture from condensing inside. The case is made of solid pine, with a back of planks and reinforcing brackets. A framed panel door, with a bevelled moulding, closes over an interior with shelves, featuring iron hinges and a lever latch. The base has a common moulding, and the top slightly overhangs. The bluish-grey layer has cracked into a dense and regular network that reveals the tile-red underneath. On the edges and the base, the grey has disappeared, and the red predominates. The back retains its uncracked red paint. This crackling is the visual focus of the piece: it transforms a flat surface into texture and gives the grey a depth that it would not have if freshly painted. No repaint conceals it. With a width of 58 cm and a height of 85 cm, it serves as a kitchen side table, a tall bedside table, or a narrow entrance piece. The bluish-grey makes it compatible with Nordic, rustic, and contemporary interiors. Details. Dimensions: Length 58 cm – Depth 40 cm – Height 85 cm. Style: Central European rustic.
