Small antique pine wood furniture – Central Europe, around 1900
This small antique pine wood piece is a rustic furniture item from Central Europe with one door, a porcelain knob, and worn white paint. It originates from Central Europe, dating back to the early 20th century, when the white porcelain knob became common in service furniture. It is a utilitarian piece: a kitchen cupboard or pantry, made of pine boards and without ornamentation. Its interest lies in the economy of means and the way use has worn the paint down to create a transparent layer. The carcass is made of solid pine, with uprights extending into short feet. A two-panelled door frames an interior with shelves, featuring a fluted white porcelain knob and a lever iron latch. The back is made of vertical boards. The cream-white paint has worn unevenly, revealing the wood in large areas, especially around the knob and on the edges. Beneath the white, a rosy tone occasionally shows through, a remnant of the primer. The result is a warm-toned surface, between bone and wood, without harsh contrast. The piece is presented as it has come to us, without repainting or varnish. Details. Dimensions: Length 59 cm – Depth 45 cm – Height 86 cm. Style: Central European Rustic.
