Large Round Coffee Table in Rope and Wood, in the Style of Audoux-Minet, Fra

Masterpiece of the French organic modernist tradition, this large circular coffee table is entirely covered in tightly wrapped natural rope around a wooden structure — the wide round top is coiled in concentric spirals radiating outward from a central point, while the solid pedestal is enveloped in a tight wicker pattern that gives it the appearance of a monolithic braided column. The contrast between the swirling geometry of the top and the structured texture of the base creates a visual dynamism typical of the finest pieces in the style of Audoux-Minet. Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet established their collaborative practice in Paris in the 1930s, creating furniture and lighting that transposed the work of maritime rope into refined domestic objects. Their vocabulary — natural fibres, organic forms, authentic materiality — proved to be extremely influential in France from the 1950s to the 1970s, inspiring a generation of artisans and workshops to explore similar techniques. The warm, rich tone of the natural fibre, oscillating between honey and deep amber, brings an earthy sensuality to the form. With a diameter of 112 cm and a height of 49.5 cm, this table is generously proportioned and reads as a sculptural object in its own right, capable of anchoring a large living room ensemble with authority. Its low profile and circular silhouette integrate naturally with both period rattan sets and contemporary interior schemes seeking warmth and textural contrast. In very good collectible condition, with the natural patina associated with age and use. A rare singular example, complementary to pairs of such tables that occasionally appear on the market.
