Spanish Revival Lebrillo Ceramic Bowl, Hand-Painted Granada Pottery, Bird

A Spanish Fajalauza lebrillo pottery bowl from Granada, hand-painted in green over a cream glaze, a large ceramic wall art decoration with a pair of birds. This large earthenware basin belongs to the centuries-old ceramic tradition of the Albaicín, where the potters of Granada have worked their green-and-white palette since the sixteenth century. The interior is decorated entirely by hand: a pomegranate rises above a leafy spray at the base, ringed by concentric bands of feathery brushwork that radiate outward to a broad unglazed terracotta rim. The green is the copper-oxide green that has defined Granadine pottery for generations, laid over a soft ivory ground. Once a working vessel, lebrillos served Andalusian households for cooking, washing, and daily labor, a bowl of this scale is now a commanding artistic presence on a wall. Condition is consistent with handmade production: light wear to the glaze and rim, minor surface variation in the terracotta, and the small irregularities that mark a piece thrown and painted by hand rather than machine.
