Pair of Antique Gothic Revival High-Back Chairs, Ebonized Wood, circa
A striking matching pair of antique high-back chairs in the Gothic Revival / Historicist style, dating approximately from the late 19th century. The chairs feature elegant carved and pierced high backs, decorative finials, turned barley-twist columns and shaped front legs. The dark ebonized wood gives them a distinctive and dramatic architectural appearance. Both chairs retain traditional sprung seat construction with webbing visible underneath. They have been reupholstered at a later date in a light cream floral fabric finished with decorative upholstery nails. The chairs are particularly attractive as a matching pair and would make excellent statement chairs in an entrance hall, living room, library or an eclectic interior combining antique and contemporary furniture. No maker’s marks, labels or stamps have been found. Exact country of origin is therefore unknown, but they are believed to be European. Condition. Good antique condition consistent with age and use. The wooden frames show normal age-related marks, wear and minor imperfections. The upholstery is later and shows some signs of use. Please study the photographs as they form part of the description.
