An armchair from the English Regency period, circa 1820. Its most striking feature is the curved armrests, which taper into sculpted spiral shapes (volutes). The front legs are turned and fluted, which is typical of the classical influence of the period. The back legs, by contrast, curve slightly outwards to ensure optimum stability. The simple, slightly concave shoulder board provides comfortable support for the back. The seats feature the original traditional upholstery and are covered in a timeless, subtly dotted fabric in a muted olive green, finished with a colour-coordinated border. Thrifted pieces are smartly repaired. We fix what needs fixing and leave what’s good. You get a fully functional, cleaned piece of furniture with some patina and history at a very good price.
