This antique console made of solid fir, with three drawers and a tiered apron, is a side table from northern China around 1930. The piece does not retain a manufacturer's label and is described by typology and region. Drawer consoles were common pieces in homes in China: placed against a wall, they served to store small utensils, stationery, or everyday cutlery. The tiered apron beneath the drawers was a recurring decorative motif in coastal domestic furniture. The frame is assembled with blind mortise and tenon joints on four square legs. The three drawers aligned at the front retain their circular wrought iron rings. The top is made of fir boards joined edge-to-edge; the back apron is higher than the front apron, creating a horizontal rhythm at the base. The patina displays the light tone characteristic of fir washed by time, with deep grains and darker areas where hands have polished the wood. Small chips on the edges and stable oxidation on the fittings enhance the honest character of the piece, without invasive restoration. Details.
