Daybed Minerva by Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for France & Son

The Minerva daybed is one of the most characteristic designs of the Danish modernism golden age. Designed by the renowned duo Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, this model combines a refined appearance with thoughtful functionality. The solid teak frame, with its slender lines, elegantly tapered legs, and distinctive chrome back supports, gives the Minerva an open and airy silhouette. The beautifully finished back also makes the piece attractive from all sides, making it ideal for placement in the middle of a room. Hvidt & Mølgaard-Nielsen were known for their technically innovative designs, where craftsmanship and simplicity went hand in hand. Their furniture is still praised for its refined details, balanced proportions, and timeless design. Production was ensured by France & Søn, one of the leading Danish furniture manufacturers of the 1950s and 1960s, known for the exceptional quality of its materials and finishes. This particular example is in very good condition. The teak frame has been fully professionally restored in our workshop, carefully preserving the original appearance and character. The upholstery is still completely original and in exceptionally well-maintained condition, which is rare for a piece of this age. Thanks to its refined design, the Minerva effortlessly fits into both modern and classic interiors. As a comfortable sofa, elegant daybed, or standalone object, this iconic design is a true eye-catcher that showcases the quality and elegance of Danish design at its best. Country of origin: Denmark.
